1. cd /stand/build
 2. /usr/lbin/sysadm/system_prep -s system
 3. vi system (perform required changes)
 4. /usr/sbin/mk_kernel -s /stand/build/system
 5. mv /stand/system /stand/system.prev
 6. mv /stand/vmunix /stand/vmunix.prev
 7. mv system ..
 8. /usr/sbin/kmupdate
 9. reboot

Note: The kmupdate command sets a flag that causes the new kernel and modules (of which there are probably none, but there's some files that are used by the mechanism) to be moved into place on a reboot.
