If you need to change the identity of a solaris server but don't want to reboot it, you can do the following: Edit the following files:

    * /etc/hosts
    * /etc/nodename
    * /etc/net/ticots/hosts
    * /etc/net/ticlts/hosts
    * /etc/net/ticotsord/hosts
    * /etc/hostname.*
    * /etc/resolv.conf
    * /etc/netmasks
    * /etc/domainname

Any NIS/NIS+/LDAP maps

Run commands:

    * uname -S new-hostname
    * hostname new-hostname
    * ifconfig interface settings
    * mkdir /var/crash/`hostname`
    * dumpadm to update ( /etc/dumpadm.conf )
    * domainname new-domain

Restart:

    * /etc/init.d/rpc
    * /etc/init.d/sendmail
    * /etc/init.d/dtlogin
    * /etc/init.d/nfs.server

This also provides a useful reference list for potential hostname/IP address problems.
